Don’t forget, this Friday is our Christmas special where we’re offering something a bit different…. As well as an engaging and atmospheric film – VICEROY’S HOUSE – we’ll be getting in the festive mood with wine, mince pies, our usual home-baked cakes and a raffle.
Please note doors open at 6.45pm, so plenty of time for a glass or two (it’s a cash bar), a complimentary festive nibble and some socialising before the film starts. Leave space for the delicious interval cakes though!
Details of our special Christmas show on Friday 8th December are below, along with a note of our 2018 dates (programme details will be announced shortly):
Friday 8th December – CHRISTMAS SPECIAL – A fun evening with wine, mince pies, our usual delicious cakes and a raffle! Please note the earlier door opening time of 6.45pm…
(2017, 106 mins, 12A)
New Dehli, March 1947: the huge and stately Viceroy’s Palace is like a beehive. Its five hundred employees are busy preparing for the arrival of Lord Louis Mountbatten, newly appointed as the in-coming (and last) Viceroy of India by prime minister, Clement Attlee. Mountbatten has the difficult task of overseeing the transition of British India to independence and arrives at the Palace accompanied by Edwina, his liberal-minded wife, and by his eighteen-year-old daughter Pamela. Meanwhile, in the staff quarters, a love story is born between Jeet, a Hindu, and Aalia, a Muslim beauty. Things will prove difficult – not to say very difficult – on both the geopolitical and personal level…. This is a fascinating historical drama recounting a turbulent and colourful time, with a faultless cast including Hugh Bonneville (as Mountbatten) and Gillian Anderson (as Edwina). Other stars include Simon Callow, Michael Gambon, Simon Williams and the late, great Om Puri.
